Ian Hogarth joins NECIT as our Group Technical Manager

Ian brings with him a valuable 46-year involvement in the welding community.

With experience in the welding industry going back to 1974, Ian’s knowledge ranges from NDT, Welding Inspection to Welding Engineering and much more.

Ian Hogarth joins NECIT as Group Technical Manager to help support the growing demand for our services.

We are thrilled to welcome the president of the Teesside branch of the Welding Institute Ian Hogarth as the latest member of the NECIT team. Ian joins us as a Technical Manager and brings with him a valuable 46-year involvement in the welding community.

Ian’s Background

Ian started his illustrious career in welding with an indentured welding apprenticeship with Aveling Barford Ltd in Newcastle Upon Tyne back in 1974. He progressed over the years from NDT and Welding Inspection to Welding Engineering where he received the status of CEng, Eur Ing, as well as successfully achieving a MSc in welding Engineering from Cranfield University.
Having secured many professional welding qualifications, Ian took on a new role as a lecturer, focusing on the IIW Welding Engineering Diploma. Furthermore, Ian personally developed the CSWIP Welding Quality Control Coordinator course, of which was successfully introduced into the industry in 2008 and remains to this day a popular course.

Ian is estimated to have trained over 2000 students from Welding Inspector to Welding Engineer since 2007. The course materials he has developed are successfully used in the training of today’s students across the world. While Group Manager of TWI Training (2006 to 2011), Ian had overall responsibility for the operation of training courses and examinations with an annual turnover of over £5 million. During this time, he developed the multi-choice examination system for the CSWIP Welding Inspection course.
Ian was also an instrumental figure in expanding the BS EN ISO 3834, CSWTO (Certification Scheme for Welder Training Organisations) and the BS EN 1090 company certification side of the business, both recruiting and training the team. Up until leaving TWI, Ian was tasked with developing and expanding the welder and welding procedure certification side of the business under UKAS accreditation, with further responsibility of being the CSWIP Chief Examiner.

His role at NECIT

Ian’s primary role as the Group Technical Manager will be ensuring that technical activities are carried out in accordance with requirements of ISO 17020:2012 as NECIT mode towards UKAS Type – A Inspection Body accreditation in 2021.

As Technical Authority for Inspection, Auditing, conventional NDT and Welding Engineering services, Ian will ensure that all services are delivered in an Impartial, competent, consistent and effective manner at all times and in full accordance International standards.

Ian will be working with the departments within NECIT to Provide effective, timely and pro-active support to projects utilising his vast knowledge and experience to Provide technical review of reports when required, solidifying NECITs commitment to excellence.

Ian joins the NECIT Group at an exciting time and we are delighted to welcome someone with his level of experience and expertise join our already talented team. The NECIT team are passionate about providing expert support and service excellence to our customers and Ian will no doubt help us achieve this.
