Danny Statham is an NDT Specialist with level 2 qualifications across phased array PCN, Ultrasonic welds, Visual inspection, MPI and LPI. He is based in Lancashire, UK and is the latest NECIT inspector to take our rapid fire ‘Meet the Inspector’ Q&A.

1. How long have you been working as an inspector?

Just over a year.

2. What are your specialist skills and certifications?

Ultrasonics and Phased Array.

3. What motivates you most about being an inspector and why?

Seeing a project through from start to finish is my biggest motivator but I also really enjoy the different areas of work – from assembly through to test and QA.

4. What is the biggest challenge you’ve had as an inspector and why?

I’d say that the challenges in delivering inspections are what make it interesting. Working with clients often brings a challenge because expectations and requirements can change but I find that networking and building strong relationships are some of the essential ways to manage this.

5. Explain in your own words why inspectors are so important in the world of engineering.

Ensuring that quality specification is met and delivered is so important and inspectors contribute a huge amount of value to problem solving during projects to help with their smooth completion.

6. What do you think makes a top quality inspector and why?

I think always being willing to learn from others who are more experienced means you are constantly developing and pushing for progression in the role.

7. What is the most interesting project you’ve been involved in with NECIT Services and why?

I’ve been an inspector for just over a year now so the projects I’m currently working on were my first introduction to inspection and are as interesting today as they were at the start.

8. What do you like about working with the NECIT Services team and why?

They’re honest, factual and easy to talk to but the biggest thing they’ve helped me with is my own development and confidence within my new role.
