Sunderland Association Football Club was formed in 1879 as Sunderland and District Teachers A.F.C. by schoolmaster James Allan in the city of Sunderland, Tyne, and Wear. In 1880, the club was renamed as Sunderland A.F.C. and became open to more than just schoolteachers.
We are so happy to be officially part of Sunderland AFC, this partnership builds on our long-standing commitment to empower local communities and help the young local talent build a bright future.
We are also very proud to sponsor Ellen Jones and Christopher Rigg. Ellen was signed for Sunderland AFC Women on a professional contract after a successful trial period which also included a friendly pre-season against Celtic Women.
16-year-old Chris Rigg became the youngest goal scorer in Sunderland’s AFC club history with his goal against Crewe Alexandra in August 2023.
